Dearborn Public Schools Return to School Plan Update Information

February 2, 2020

Dear Becker Families,

I was hoping to keep everyone in the loop with the Dearborn Public Schools Return to School Plan and updates that have come from recent Board of Education Meetings. The Board of Education met on January 23rd and updated the Return to School Plan (https://firstbell.dearbornschools.org/2021/01/25/board-modifies-reopening-plan/) We do not yet have a date for when schools will reopen.   Our district is using 2 metrics to examine the status that would allow for a return to school for all students.  Dearborn Public Schools will restart with blended learning for students once our score on the Wayne County Health Department school matrix improves to at least a D and we have a weekly positivity rate below 5 percent.  To view the current status for the school matrix and positivity rate, please visit the website  https://dearbornschools.org/services/coronavirus-covid-19-information/ .

When the metrics allow for students to resume in-person learning, Becker Elementary and Dearborn Public Schools will follow a hybrid schedule.  The hybrid schedule involves students receiving in-person instruction either Monday and Thursday or Tuesday and Friday.  All students will receive remote instruction with their teacher on Wednesdays.  On the days students are in face to face instruction, they will be working asynchronously and will have time to check in with their classroom teacher as well as receive live instruction from their special area teachers!  Families can view the timeline for the return to school and hybrid schedule by visiting the website https://dearbornschools.org/backtoschool/ .  This website also contains a hybrid schedule for what a student’s day would look like on the in-person learning days and the asynchronous learning days.

Our Superintendent, Dr. Maleyko, provides regular updates on the status of our return to school plans.  To keep up to date, you may follow his messages to our school community on the Superintendent’s blog (https://superintendent.dearbornschools.org/) as well as on Twitter (@DrMaleyko) or Instagram (@superintendent.maleyko).

Please remember to mask up and stay safe!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Zreik
