Below is the letter that was sent to you about our soft start initiative for kindergarteners.

Dear Parent/Guardian:
Congratulations! Your child is ready to come to kindergarten. We are pleased to welcome your family to our school, as well as welcoming siblings of our current students.
Dearborn Public Schools is initiating a “Soft Start” program for incoming kindergarten students. The purpose of the Soft Start program is to provide shorter days and to introduce your child to his/her kindergarten teacher. This first week transition will allow your child to familiarize him/herself with the school and basic routines. The goal is to ensure that the start of kindergarten is positive, smooth, and successful for all students.
This is an exciting time in the lives of children and families. Our goal for Soft Start is to make the start to school successful for all students. Thank you for your patience with the part time schedule. This is effective only for the first week of school.
The Soft Start schedule is :
Tuesday, September 6th:
- All kindergarten students (kindergarten parents are welcome to stay)
- Arrival: 9:00 a.m. Dismissal: 12:00
Wednesday, September 7th:
- Kindergarten students from 9:00-11:30
- Parent orientation meeting 12:30-2:00
- Kindergarten Open House for parents and children 2:00-3:30
Thursday, September 8th:
- Kindergarten students 9:00-11:30
- Scheduled one-on-one assessments: 12:00-3:30
Friday, September 9th:
- Kindergarten students 9:00-11:30
- Scheduled one-on-one assessments: 12:00-3:30
Kindergarten teachers will be assessing all students during scheduled times. Thank you for your partnership and continued support as your child begins school. We love volunteers and encourage you to volunteer-please pick up information in the office or see your child’s teacher for more information.
