Overview
Becker has made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) as identified by the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) and Education Yes!. More than 95% of students in grades 2-5 took the state MEAP test and posted some of the highest scores in the district. In addition, Becker is fully accredited by North Central Accreditation. We are implementing our NCA School Improvement Plan and gathering supportive data that aligns with the goals chosen.  We are in our final year of implementation of NCA and a Peer Review Team will visit Becker in 2007.  We received a grade of “A“ on the State of Michigan Report Card. OUR TEN POINTS OF PRIDE

1. Iris Becker School has been accredited by the North Central Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement and has made AYP for the past three years.

2. Iris Becker School has been selected one of the top five schools in Michigan as a high performing school in spite of all the challenges.

3. Iris Becker School has received a letter grade of an “A” on the State of Michigan Report Card.  

4. Iris Becker School has implemented a new Reading First Program, through which all teachers work collaboratively to enhance literacy.

5. Iris Becker School has implemented the foreign language theme (Arabic) to enhance comprehension and literacy skills and has just received DFLAP Grant.

6.Iris Becker School had two full-day kindergartens for the past two years, which are part of our early intervention program.

7.Iris Becker School staff holds monthly parent workshops and sends out all communication in two languages to improve communication between home and school.

8.Iris Becker School is a partner with Madonna University Health Department and ACCESS and held a Health Fair for the last three years.

9.Iris Becker School holds Student Council Elections every year, which includes presidential debates, election ballots and the usage of the City Hall election machinery.

10.Iris Becker School provides extended day programs, which include instruction in Study Island, MEAP Preparation, IGNITE, Homework Assistance, ESL and Parent Education workshops.
